Mastery of Conducting Excursions”, aimed at developing professional skills, was successfully held

On February 13, 2026, the Department of Tourism and Service of Kulazhanov Kazakh University of Technology and Business, with the support of the Corporate Fund of the First President’s Museum, successfully held the competition “Learners’ Mastery of Conducting Excursions.” The event was aimed at improving the practical skills of future tourism professionals, developing the culture of экскурсия guiding, and strengthening professional competencies.

Learners of 1st–4th year from the educational programs “Tourism,” “International Tourism,” and “Restaurant and Hotel Business” took part in the competition. In the main stage, the teams first introduced themselves and then conducted guided tours of the exhibitions “Atameken,” “Astana — Symbol of Independence,” “Intellectual Nation,” as well as an exhibition composed of a collection of personal belongings and decorative plates. The professional guiding skills of the participants were evaluated by a commission based on approved criteria. The competition enabled learners to develop key professional competencies:

  • confident public speaking;
  • establishing effective interaction with the audience;
  • clear and logical presentation of historical and cultural material;
  • time management and compliance with regulations;
  • teamwork skills.

Most importantly, learners worked in a real museum environment and experienced the practical demands of their future profession. This positively influenced their professional self-assessment, level of responsibility, and readiness for the labor market.

According to the results of the competition, the winner was the team “Nomads,” consisting of 4th- and 2nd-year learners. Second place was awarded to “Heart of Astana,” and third place to “Guardians of Heritage.” The teams were awarded diplomas and commemorative gifts.

Such practice-oriented events enhance the competitiveness of future tourism professionals in the labor market and contribute to their professional and personal development.

For the university, organizing such a large-scale event is also of strategic importance. Firstly, it demonstrates the practice-oriented nature of the educational process, where theoretical training and real professional experience are effectively integrated — a key requirement of modern education.

Secondly, cooperation between the university and the museum not only creates opportunities for learners to gain high-quality practical experience but also strengthens the institution’s partnership network.

Thirdly, the competition helps identify talented and active learners, revealing their leadership and creative potential. Such projects increase academic motivation and help clarify professional orientation.
