About the faculty

The Faculty of Economics was established in 2003, renamed the Faculty of Economics and Services in 2021, and received the name Faculty of Economics and Business in 2025.

The mission of the faculty is to develop knowledge and personnel for the advancement of the economy and society.

The high quality of education is ensured by a qualified teaching staff, and particular attention in the training of students is paid to practical work at enterprises, economic institutes and public authorities.

The Faculty of Economics and Business is highly popular among applicants, since the modern market system requires qualified financial analysts, economists, managers, and specialists in tourism and the hotel and restaurant business.

The faculty's students benefit from a well-developed material and technical base, high-quality methodological support, modern information technologies for learning, opportunities for research activity, and an individual approach in the educational process.

Within the framework of academic mobility, students undertake study and practical training abroad, including in Turkey, Latvia and Poland.

The faculty annually graduates qualified financiers, economists and managers capable of working with forecasting, planning, investment projects, management accounting, comprehensive financial analysis, the hotel and restaurant business, and the field of tourism.

Training is conducted at the bachelor's and master's levels, and graduates can find employment in local, regional and national government bodies, international corporations, banks, insurance and investment companies, educational institutions, consulting firms, restaurants, hotels and tourism organizations.

Faculty tasks
  • To refine approaches to the theoretical and professional training of students, taking into account the needs of the economy and changes in the structure of education within a developing market.
  • To develop practice-oriented learning and expand the network of bases for professional and pre-graduation practice at leading enterprises, organizations and banking institutions of the republic.
  • To strengthen academic mobility, international partnerships and double-degree initiatives for students, master's students and the teaching staff.
  • To involve students in research projects, conferences, publications, grant competitions and the work of student research circles.
  • To expand the introduction of digital and information technologies in education, including electronic textbooks, virtual laboratories, and expert and consulting groups.
  • To support the dual education system, departmental branches at enterprises, and the integration of industry professionals into the educational process.
  • To upgrade the qualifications of the teaching staff, develop pedagogical skill and strengthen applied competencies through industry-specific training programs, including 1C and language training.

Bachelor's programs: economics, accounting, finance and management

The faculty offers bachelor's programs in economics, accounting and auditing, management, public and local administration, finance, tourism, international tourism, the restaurant and hotel business, and IT technologies in the service sector.

The faculty continuously refines its approaches to the theoretical and professional knowledge of students, taking into account the needs of the economy and the changing requirements of the labor market.

Since 2017, groups with English as the language of instruction have been opened in the "Restaurant Business and Hotel Management" educational program.

Students gain not only fundamental knowledge but also invaluable practical experience that helps them achieve high results in their careers.

Master's studies and academic development

The faculty trains masters in economics, management, public and local administration, accounting and auditing, and finance.

The master's program is represented by professional and research-pedagogical tracks oriented toward analytical, research, teaching and managerial activity.

Master's graduates can pursue a research and teaching career, or work in government bodies, commercial banks, international corporations, consulting structures and educational organizations.

Research activity of the faculty

Research work is conducted according to the research plan, and the faculty's teaching staff participate in conferences, publications, projects and the supervision of master's research.

The Department of Economics, Accounting and Auditing pursues an initiative research topic registered with the National Center for State Scientific and Technical Expertise JSC: "The Modern Economy: Current Issues, Innovations and Development Technologies".

A special place is occupied by students' research work: student research circles operate at the departments, individual projects are carried out, and scientific reports and articles are prepared.

Students' research work is a mandatory part of specialist training and is implemented both within the curriculum and through extracurricular activity.

International cooperation is one of the faculty's priority areas and expands the educational and research opportunities of students and teachers.

The faculty has concluded agreements with foreign and Kazakhstani partner universities, including Eskisehir Osmangazi University, Antalya Bilim University, Baltic International Academy, Altai State University, Amur State University and Osh Technological University.

Going forward, double-degree programs and international internships are being developed jointly with Antalya Bilim University, Eskisehir Osmangazi University, Baltic International Academy and Altai State University.

Students have participated in academic mobility at Turiba University, as well as in internal mobility programs at Almaty Technological University, Karaganda Technical University and the Innovative University of Eurasia.

Dual education system and faculty development

The faculty actively develops the dual education model, in which theoretical training takes place at the university while the practical component is built around the enterprise.

The departments strengthen ties with employers in the fields of economics, management, tourism, the hotel and restaurant business and financial services, and teachers regularly conduct practical sessions at enterprises.

Departmental branches were opened on the premises of the Sayat tour company and the Rixos President Hotel Astana, which strengthened the practical component of student training.

In recent years, more than 100 of the faculty's teachers have completed professional development, and programs in 1C Enterprise, pedagogical skill and language training have also been implemented.
