Department Mission

We strive to ensure that every student who chooses our university gets maximum opportunities for professional and personal growth. The Department of Computer Engineering and Automation (CIiA) actively cooperates with students, creating conditions for mastering advanced standards, internships with real employers and participation in projects in demand on the labor market. Our goal is to produce specialists who are ready to immediately apply knowledge in practice, who have high adaptability, responsibility and a desire for continuous professional development.

Department History

In 2025, the Department of Computer Engineering and Automation was separated from the Department of Information Technology of the Faculty of Technology of the Kazakh University of Technology and Business named after K. Kulazhanov. The department trains highly qualified, competitive specialists of the new generation who possess modern knowledge and practical skills in the field of artificial intelligence, automation and digital energy systems. The main goal of the department is to ensure the high quality of the educational process and the development of scientific research in the field of computer engineering and automation.

Our Methods and Activity Priorities

Department actively implements modern approaches to training highly qualified specialists, combining deep fundamental knowledge with advanced digital technologies and practice-oriented education. We provide training in three in-demand educational programs: “Artificial Intelligence”, “Automation and Control” and “Digital Economy”.

Main priorities and methods of the department:

  • Training of a new generation of specialists Implementation of comprehensive educational programs in the fields of artificial intelligence, automation and control, as well as digital economy. Special attention is paid to interdisciplinary training and the formation of competencies in the field of Industry 4.0 and digital transformation.
  • Modern educational technologies Widespread use of artificial intelligence technologies in the educational process, interactive platforms, virtual laboratories, simulators, computer modeling systems and elements of blended learning.
  • Practice-oriented education Training through solving real production tasks and cases from partners, organization of industrial internships at leading industrial and IT enterprises, active participation of students in hackathons, competitions and project activities.
  • International cooperation Development of international partnerships, participation in joint educational and scientific projects, academic mobility of students and teachers, publications in international scientific journals.
  • Digitalization of the educational process Active implementation of digital platforms, cloud technologies, computer-aided design systems, creation of digital twins and intelligent learning systems.
  • Interaction with employers Close cooperation with leading industrial enterprises, IT companies and organizations of the real sector. Joint development of educational programs, involvement of practicing specialists in teaching, organization of internships and assistance in graduate employment.
  • Development of the scientific potential of teachers and students Active involvement of students and teachers in research activities, implementation of grant projects, organization of scientific seminars and conferences, preparation of publications in leading Russian and international journals, support for student science.

Department trains bachelors in three relevant educational programs that meet the needs of digital transformation in industry and energy.

  • Artificial Intelligence Code: 6В06155 Short description: Training of highly qualified specialists in the development of artificial intelligence systems, machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing and intelligent data analysis.   • Digital Energy Code: 6В07133 Short description: Training of specialists in digital transformation of energy sector, development and implementation of intelligent control systems for energy facilities, automation and optimization of energy processes. Duration: 4 years Awarded qualification: Bachelor of engineering and technology
  • Automation and Control Code: 6В07116 Short description: Training of specialists in the design, implementation and operation of automated control systems for technological processes in industry and energy. Duration: 4 years Awarded qualification: Bachelor of engineering and technology

Master's Degree Programs

Master’s Degree Program:

  • Automation and Control Code: 7М07188 Direction: Profile and Scientific-Pedagogical Short description: In-depth specialization in modern automation methods, intelligent control systems, digital twins, cyber-physical systems and artificial intelligence in control. The program combines cutting-edge research with solving real industrial challenges. Duration: 2 years Awarded degree: Master of Engineering and Technology in Automation and Control

Research and Scientific Activities

The faculty members, master’s students, and undergraduate students actively participate in research work focused on the development of modern technologies in automation, computer engineering, and digital control systems.

  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning methods in control systems

Research is carried out within projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as under contractual projects.

The department’s faculty actively applies modern digital technologies and conducts applied research in line with the priority areas of the industrial and innovative development of Kazakhstan’s economy.

Research results are successfully integrated into the educational process and used in the development of laboratory and practical assignments, author’s courses, diploma projects, and master’s theses.

Scientific papers by the department’s faculty (Akishev K.M., Tulegulov A.D., Serimbetov B.A.) are regularly published in republican and international journals, including those indexed in Scopus and Web of Science.
