Description

Eradicate poverty in all its forms

Bitmanov Yertas - AP25796771 "Monitoring of soil pollution in Central and Western Kazakhstan, development of measures to clean up and reduce the content of heavy metals in the soil."
The project is aimed at a comprehensive assessment of the ecological state of the soil cover and the development of scientifically sound solutions to reduce the level of anthropogenic pollution. The relevance of the project is due to the increased anthropogenic pressure on ecosystems associated with industrial activities, mining and infrastructure development, which leads to the accumulation of heavy metals in the soil and, as a result, to a deterioration in environmental quality and risks to public health. The aim of the project is to organize and conduct systematic monitoring of soil pollution in Central and Western Kazakhstan, including quantification of heavy metals, bioindication studies, and the development of a set of measures to reduce the concentration of pollutants. The scientific novelty of the study is to obtain up-to-date and reliable data on the content of heavy metals in the soils of the studied regions using both physico-chemical and biological assessment methods. The use of bioindication will reveal not only the level of pollution, but also its integral effect on living organisms, providing a more complete understanding of the toxicity of the soil environment. As part of the project, dynamic monitoring is planned for the period 2025-2027, followed by the construction of predictive models of changes in pollution levels for the coming years. Spatial and temporal features of the distribution of heavy metals will be analyzed, as well as the main sources of pollution will be identified. Special attention will be paid to the development of practical recommendations for soil purification and restoration, including the use of modern remediation methods such as phytoremediation, chemical stabilization and biological purification methods. The proposed measures will be aimed at reducing the content of heavy metals to maximum permissible concentrations (MPC) and restoring the ecological balance. The practical significance of the project lies in the formation of a scientific basis for environmental monitoring and soil quality management in Kazakhstan. The results obtained can be used by government agencies in developing environmental policy, as well as in planning measures for land reclamation and reducing environmental risks. The implementation of the project will increase the level of environmental safety, ensure the sustainable use of land resources and create prerequisites for the long-term conservation of the natural potential of Central and Western Kazakhstan.

Nurtai Zhadyra Tastanbekovna (Head of the Department of Chemistry, Chemical Technology and Ecology) made a presentation on "Environmental initiatives in the Message of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan: challenges and prospects".

PhD, Associate Professor Mamytova Nurgul Sagievna and PhD, Assistant Professor Mukanova Kuralai Aitzhanovna successfully completed a 6-month research internship in the field of Ecology within the framework of the Internship for 500 Scientists program. From July 1 to December 23, 2025, a research internship was completed at Humboldt University of Berlin (Federal Republic of Germany) on the topic "Green technologies and sustainable development". During the internship, modern approaches in the field of renewable energy, Smart Grid, energy sector transformation (decarbonization, decentralization, dematerialization) and ESG investment were studied. The experience gained will be used in the scientific and educational activities of the university.
