Department Mission

The mission of the Department of Finance and Accounting is to train highly qualified, competitive, and in-demand specialists in the fields of finance, accounting, auditing, and taxation who possess professional competencies, analytical thinking, digital skills, and a high level of social responsibility.

The Department was established to provide qualified personnel for the rapidly developing financial and real sectors of the economy of independent Kazakhstan. From its inception, special emphasis has been placed on integrating theoretical knowledge with practical decision-making in finance and accounting. The Department trains highly qualified professionals through the educational programs “Finance” and “Accounting and Auditing,” combining advanced academic and pedagogical experience with the requirements of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and International Standards on Auditing (ISA).

The primary objective of the Department is to prepare specialists capable of working effectively in the context of the digital transformation of Kazakhstan’s economy and financial sector, combining knowledge of international standards with the specific characteristics of the national environment.

Educational Program: 6B04108 Finance

Program Overview:

The 6B04108 Finance educational program combines classical financial education with digital technologies, industry-specific expertise, and practice-oriented learning. This approach enables graduates to develop competencies that are highly востребованы in the context of the transformation of Kazakhstan’s financial markets and economy.

The uniqueness of the program is enhanced by the inclusion of the Minor “Modern Aspects of Artificial Intelligence Applications”, which allows students to study machine learning, neural networks, and the application of AI in management processes. This develops next-generation competencies, including the ability to utilize digital technologies, automation, and intelligent systems in financial activities.

Modern teaching methods include project-based learning, case-study methods, financial situation modeling, work with industry-specific data, business simulations, and internships in banks, financial institutions, and government agencies.

As a result, the program prepares competitive professionals who are proficient in both traditional financial instruments and digital technologies and are capable of working effectively in the banking sector, corporate finance, public administration, investment companies, and securities markets.

Program Overview:

The 6B04103 Accounting and Auditing educational program is distinguished by its practice-oriented approach and close integration with the real business sector. The program combines International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) with modern digital accounting and analytical technologies. Graduates acquire competitive skills required for professional work in contemporary accounting and auditing environments.

The program emphasizes the practical application of knowledge, the development of analytical thinking, professional judgment, and managerial decision-making skills in the field of accounting and auditing.

Modern educational and professional technologies include the use of digital accounting systems such as 1C: Enterprise and 1C: Enterprise for Government Institutions.

The Master’s program in Accounting and Auditing is designed to prepare analytically strong and highly demanded specialists capable of implementing modern accounting, analysis, and auditing methods in the context of the digital economy and international standards.

The program focuses on advanced studies in accounting, financial analysis, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), International Standards on Auditing (ISA), tax audit methodologies, management accounting, business analysis, and digital data-processing tools.

Particular attention is paid to the development of research, analytical, and teaching competencies, as well as the practical application of knowledge in professional activities.

Duration of Study: 2 years (Scientific and Pedagogical Track)

Awarded Qualification: Master of Economic Sciences in the Educational Program “Accounting and Auditing”

Research and Scientific Activities

The research activities of the Department of Finance and Accounting are carried out in accordance with the strategic priorities of the University and are aimed at the development of applied and fundamental research in the fields of finance, accounting, auditing, taxation, and sustainable development.

Research work is conducted in accordance with the Department’s Research Plan approved by the Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation of JSC K. Kulazhanov Kazakh University of Technology and Business.

  1. Digitalization of accounting, auditing, and tax administration;
  2. Development of the financial system and financial markets under conditions of sustainable and inclusive economic growth;

Student Achievements

Second-year student Nurlan Abdirakhmanov, third-year student Altynai Asylbekova of the Accounting and Auditing educational program, and their supervisor Klara Bozhekovna Baidairova successfully represented JSC K. Kulazhanov Kazakh University of Technology and Business at the International Accounting Olympiad “Transformation of Accounting: Trends, Challenges, and Prospects,” held at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University on April 10, 2026.

During the Olympiad, participants demonstrated a high level of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. As a result of the competition, the team achieved first place in the testing stage, demonstrating excellent knowledge of modern accounting in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). In addition, based on the overall results of all competition stages, the team won second place overall, confirming its competitiveness at the international level. The team competed under the name “Debit on the Rise”.

The achievements of Altynai Asylbekova and Nurlan Abdirakhmanov are a vivid example of dedication, professionalism, and high-quality academic preparation within the Accounting and Auditing educational program. Their success highlights the high standard of the educational process and contributes to strengthening the University's reputation within the academic community.

Akpanova A.R., a student of group UA221 in the 6B04103 Accounting and Auditing educational program, participated online in the III All-Russian Student Scientific and Practical Conference “Digital Economy and Security: Challenges and Prospects” (section: “Innovations in Auditing: From Traditions to Digital Technologies”). She presented a report entitled “Improving Methods of Collecting Audit Evidence Using Artificial Intelligence.” Based on the conference results, she was awarded third place and received a Third-Degree Diploma (Moscow, Russian Federation).

Ayzhan Musazhanova, a second-year student of the Finance educational program (scientific supervisor: Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor R.K. Berstembayeva), won first place in the International Essay Competition “Economics and Psychology: Key Issues and Development Prospects,” held at the Moscow Economic Institute (Moscow, Russian Federation) on January 31, 2026.

International Student Online Olympiad in Finance

Sagdana Kenenbayeva, a second-year student of the Finance educational program (scientific supervisor: Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor R.K. Berstembayeva), won second place in the International Student Online Finance Olympiad held in Aktobe on November 28, 2025.

  • Expansion of international scientific cooperation through participation in international conferences and publication of research papers in foreign academic journals;
  • Active involvement of students and master's students in research activities, including participation in conferences, competitions, and academic publishing.
